Every part of the body is assigned a relative value, based on its importance to the overall body function. For example, the value of the shoulder is higher than the value of a toe.
Every injury is assigned a percentage of disability by one or more doctors. 100 percent indicates complete disability of the body part. 1 percent indicates a relatively minor disability. No one doctor’s opinion is binding, or necessarily even correct.
From here, the issue becomes even more difficult. The value of an injury can change from year to year. An injury that might have been worth one amount in 2007, may be worth a completely different amount in 2009.
